Sebastián Leal is a songwriter exploring himself through music. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, he is now based in Vancouver, Canada, where he is studying music at Vancouver Community College. In 2024, he was awarded the John Young Scholarship for his dedication and artistic development.
His style is a distillation of genres such as post-punk, psychedelic pop/rock, stoner rock, progressive rock/metal, alternative rock, alternative metal, indie, synth-pop, dream pop, and shoegaze, as well as Afro-Cuban influences that connect him to his roots. Rather than limiting himself to one category, Sebastián embraces exploration as the core of his creative process.
Since 2023, he has been actively involved in Vancouver’s music scene through jams, choirs, and ensembles—including The Jam Portal, The East Café, the Douglas College Choir (Eirc Hannan), the V4C choir (Paula Kremer, Patricia Patricia Plumley), and John Siddall’s Gamelan ensemble, among others. He enjoys playing guitar, singing, and exploring any new instrument he comes across.
Sebastián currently works as a full-stack software developer. Besides growing his people and project management skills, this experience also gives him valuable knowledge of how digital systems work internally—enriching the creative process for the electronic-related projects he embarks on.
His current focus is on completing original songs that will lead toward an EP. He also has a passion for cinematography and photography and is writing a pilot episode for an animated comedy critiquing social systems through humor.
While his long-term vision remains open-ended, one thing is certain: music will always be a central part of his life—as a songwriter, performer, learner, and passionate explorer of sound.
